Who I am and what I do.
I'm Mick Teti-Beaudin, I'm an English Professor at a community college in a small city in central PA. In addition to the advising and college service work my job entails, I'm involved in my new community, I'm in love with my city and its people. I volunteer with a cat rescue as a foster home for cats and kittens. I am involved in my church community, and I'm participating in local workshops and professional development on anti-racism both in and out of the classroom.On top of all of that, my husband and I are in the process of adopting a child through the foster care system. I don't get nearly as much time to relax as I'd like, but when I do, I'm knitting or spinning and dreaming about sweaters.
A typical day for me.
I'm a morning person and always volunteer to take the 8 am classes, so that means I'm up at 5 every day. Once I'm showered, I do my fair share of puttering on the internet while drinking my favorite local coffee, and then I'm out the door, usually while wearing a hand knit or two.
My work day consists of a lot of varying roles: I teach anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours each day, working with 100-125 students a semester. I never sit down in the classroom, and between classes I'm holding office hours, advising students, attending meetings, and drinking tea while reading/grading/prepping for class. If I'm lucky, I can grab a late lunch with a friend once a week, and then I'm home to do more prep for classes. I take breaks in between papers to play with my two rescued pups in the backyard and our four rescued cats inside. Our house is a total zoo, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Once evening comes, I do my best to turn off my computer (a struggle, but I'm getting better), make a delicious vegetarian dinner over a glass of wine with my husband, and unwind with some knitting on the couch before a really early bedtime. And of course, because I'm an English professor, I'm reading a whole lot in bed before finally turning out the light and doing it all again the next day.
