Hi everyone. It’s with a lot of gratitude and some sadness that after 12 years in business, we’ve decided to wind down and close operations for Pyne & Smith here in California.
There are so many factors that have been stacked against us - the last 14 months have gotten exponentially harder as a small, slow fashion business that’s made in the US. Our existing customers have been incredible, beyond supportive which I think is every brands dream! But finding new customers has become our biggest pain point, due to ever changing algorithms, AI and an increasing dependence on paid ad’s - we dedicated ourselves to doing absolutely everything we could to keep this business going, but it feels unsustainable, running faster & trying harder, almost the polar opposite to what a slow fashion brand should be.
I’m not sure what the future holds, but for now, we will be winding Pyne & Smith down and closing our doors here in California in early summer of this year, and I will removing back to the UK to be with my family.
Thank you for being here and for being the most incredibly supportive community, I realized very early on that these dresses were special in how much they united people - and I hope they continue to do so for many years to come.
